Yes and No. Yes solar panels work as long as they have unobstructed access to the sun’s UV rays. If the weather blocks the UV rays, solar panels can’t generate electricity. But once the storm starts to clear away, yes your solar panels will start generating power for your home.

Because solar arrays are connected to the grid, if there is a power outage most rooftop solar panels can’t be accessed.

If you want to keep your house running when the power goes out, there are a few ways to do it:

  • Use a backup generator
  • Replace your inverter with a Sunny Boy
  • Go full hybrid with backup batteries

This means you have power while others sometimes don’t.
